Peep into yourself?
This is my first attempt to write an article in English. I don’t know whether it is going to be just OK. But I fear of insult and I fear that people will tease me with my grammar or words I use. However, I have made my mind to write this one.
Today I was in Lucknow University for some personal work. I went to the “Prashasanik Bhavan” and asked a person as to where shall I submit a certain form. He said, that he didn’t knew n told me to ask someone else. I moved to the second window. Again, the same question, the reply was bit different. He first said, “Bagal wali khidki pe Pandey ji se milo. Wo hi jama karte hain” I moved to the third window. Answer was, “Pandey ji nai aaye hain…kal aana.” I asked, is there no who has been substituted with to do his work. From top to bottom, he stared at me, as if I had committed a sin by asking that question. After a pause he replied, “for one day…there is no need. Date has not been announced yet, so better you come after 25th August.”
I was wondering as to why he replied in that particular manner. And then I thought of those days from my past, when I was making a documentary. The focus of the documentary was the basic education system of India. I went to a primary school of Indira Nagar. After convincing the teachers I started shooting with my friends. I wanted to ascertain whether the system is corrupt or is it the students who do not want to study. There are many schemes to provide education to every child of the country, but the will is to do the same seems to be missing. Teachers and officials find it more convincing to play blame games rather than doing something fruitful.
Individuals today are taking their duties for granted. The “Chalta hai” attitude is deep rooted in the minds of all. Two teachers for 200 students can never be a fair equation. Everyone talks about corruption and reforms at a large scale but no individual is doing his\her work honestly. Same condition is there in every department of India. It is because of this, that the development of the country is suffering badly. Throughout the documentary, during my conversations with the students about their dreams, i did not come across a single student who thought of something beyond tailoring or their paternal work. There was one student who dared to dream big. But the very next moment his uncertainty of not being able to study after 8th class came to the fore.
I think, if everyone gets his\her work done honestly within the set time frame, there will be no problem. Not even a single reform will be needed. But for that, a strong will is what we need. After reading the whole write up I expect you to say I will do my work honestly within the set time, instead of saying the write up is ok or not. Ask yourself, whether you are honest towards your work or not. Peep into yourself and make some better conclusions. That is what is the need of OUR country at this hour.
